THE BISTRO GARDEN @ COLDWATER… “Updated Happy Hour Menu!”

*UNFORTUNATELY, BISTRO GARDEN’S HAPPY HOUR HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Bistro Garden in Studio City, CA recently revised their Happy Hour menu. Not only that, but they have extended the times of it as well due to it’s popularity and exciting offerings during that alluring time of the evening.

In our original article at SavorHour.com about Bistro Garden’s Happy Hour that we published on May 3, 2012, we highlighted the current menu at the time, the memorable piano playing of David Wilson on Wednesday nights, and the warm and welcoming staff within the stunning environment of Bistro Garden.

Still available Monday through Friday evenings, Bistro Garden’s new Happy Hour menu now extends from 4 PM to 7 PM and offers an array of newly designed creative culinary delights that will tempt your taste buds and keep you coming back for more. All while being entertained by the talents of David Wilson at the Baby Grand and enjoying the new 25% discount on all drinks, bottles of wine and Champagne, and bar appetizers.

Speaking of bar appetizers, we’ve tried several and can attest to the vibrant display of color and the immense flavorful sensation of each. Try Shredded Marinated Short Ribs with Avocado and Salsa Fresca on House Made Tortilla Chips ($8.50), Seared Ahi Tuna Tacos in Crispy Wonton Shells with Sesame Slaw and Mango Pineapple Salsa ($11.50), Fresh Ceviche with House Made Tortilla Chips ($10.50), Chicken Lettuce Cups with Citrus Hoisin Sauce ($9.50), Grilled Vegetable Flatbread with Mozzarella, Feta Cheese and Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus ($8.50). Still on the menu from the former menu are the Rotisserie Chicken Quesadillas and the Trio of Sliders (both now $10.50).

Marinated Short Ribs On House Made Tortilla Chips

The Marinated Short Ribs with Avocado and Salsas Fresca on House Made Tortilla Chips (pictured above and below) are one of my personal favorites. The tender short rib meat is savory and delicious while the creamy avocado and Salsa Fresca is enhanced by the delicate crunch of the house made tortilla chips it all rests on. They’re like nachos, but without the cheese! And believe us, you don’t need cheese on these tasty bites of crunchy fulfillment.

The Seared Ahi Tuna Tacos in Crispy Wonton Shells with Sesame Slaw and Mango Pineapple Salsa are gratifying and pleasing. Served three to an order, these were large enough to satisfy the two of us along with a couple of cocktails on a single visit.

I absolutely love photographing food! SO here’s another photo from a different angle of the Seared Ahi Tuna Tacos…the colorful array of different vegetables against the hue of the taco shells is attractive to the eye and makes me want an order of them as I write this post…

Here I go again with the photos…the Fresh Ceviche with House Made Tortilla Chips below is refreshing and a nice appetizer to enjoy during warm days.

Fresh Ceviche With House Made Tortilla Chips

We really like the house made tortilla chips that are served with the Fresh Ceviche dish. The crunchiness is fun and you could top these crispy delights with most anything and they would be enjoyable…

If you like chicken, don’t forget about the Rotisserie Chicken Quesadillas…but keep in mind the new Chicken Lettuce Cups with Citrus Hoisin Sauce also. Chilled fresh lettuce leaves accompanied by a bowl of hot ground chicken, herbs and spices and grilled vegetables tossed in a citrus hoisin sauce and served on a rectangular dish, this appetizer is a full-flavored and mouthwatering experience…

Here’s something for the pizza lover in you…the Grilled Flatbread with Mozarella, Feta Cheese and Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus…

DAVID WILSON… “Piano and Violin Master!”

Since our first night at the Bistro Garden lounge, we’ve been unable to separate ourselves from it. Not only are the food, atmosphere and service superb and without flaw, but on Wednesdays, you can be swept away by piano master David Wilson. This incredibly talented “magician of the keys” tickles the ivories and delights the soul as he enhances, enlightens, and inspires the lives of patrons who visit from 6-10PM. Taking requests and playing favorites in his smooth, classic style, David truly harnesses the romance of music in his playing. Not only does he enjoy and have an ongoing love for the piano, but you can also hear David’s artistry and devotion to his love for music through the violin on any one of ten albums. The extensive array of songs he plays (from Cole Porter to Henry Mancini to romantic standards and seductive lounge pieces) will make you fall in love with what you hear.

In addition to composing and improvising popular music on the piano, David Wilson is a successful recording artist on violin. David first honed his art performing at A list events in the Hollywood community. His audiences have often been attended by entertainers such as Frank Sinatra, Robert DeNiro, Jane Seymour, Cher, David Bowie, Bea Arthur, Warren Beatty, Gene Kelly and many others. Henry Mancini, upon hearing David’s easy going melodic style, asked David to record for him.

Soon after recording two albums with Mr. Mancini, David recorded his own first solo album, There’s A Small Hotel. After listening, Swallowtail Records in Minneapolis immediately signed David to a contract. Subsequently, seven albums were recorded and released on Swallowtail Records. The recordings on the Swallowtail label feature ballads of Cole Porter, Gershwin and other great songwriters of the American Songbook. Also included are film themes and Continental favorites. David’s Swallowtail CD sales exceed 170,000 units.

Seeking to widen his musical realm, David and producer Benedikt Brydern ventured into the genre of Latin music on Brydern‘s ConSordino Music label. The result was the creation of the jazzy and lush Elegancia album where David’s violin meets with the vibrant grooves of Latin America.

Following Elegancia was Nobody Does It Better, David’s ninth album. The play list is comprised of popular love songs from the 1960s and 1970s – classics by the Bee Gees, the Beetles, Roberta Flack, Christopher Cross, Herb Alpert, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon and Al Green.

David continues to perform at concerts and events on both piano and violin in the Los Angeles area while working on his tenth release. This album will feature an eclectic variety of David’s original compositions.

PRESS:

“Wilson uses the uniquely grainy sound of his violin to create a series of insinuating, bittersweet, and anti-sentimental moods that magically find the emotional center of each tune… Hearing this CD is a reminder that the masters of that era were superb musicians in just the way that Old Blue Eyes was, singing encores in a smoke-filled lounge late at night, knowing that his audience was falling in love.” -STRINGS MAGAZINE, January 2009

“It was extraordinary to have bossa nova on violin. Very smooth and stimulating sounds! …the album is a true gem of Latin jazz. I absolutely recommend this album.” – TONET’S DAILY EASY LISTENING RADIO

“…Cole Porter’s works are known for their urbane sophistication, yet at the hands of Wilson, these standards come off sounding smooth and nonchalant. Stunning renditions of “From This Moment On”, “In the Still of the Night”, and “What Is This Thing Called Love” capture every bit of the romance and elegance the songs command, utilizing styles which range from jazz to swinging Latin bossa nova.” – JAZZWEST.COM

“You are one of a kind.” – Henry Mancini

THE BISTRO GARDEN @ COLDWATER… “Happy Times At Happy Hour!”

*UNFORTUNATELY, BISTRO GARDEN’S HAPPY HOUR HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Our first experience at Bistro Garden was nothing short of magical. Walking up the entry steps past blooming white flowers and a cascading fountain, we were instantly taken to a place of tranquility. As we walked in through tall, white French doors, we were suddenly enchanted. The lounge was full of patrons, but a lone table for two closest to the piano stood out among the evening crowd. It seemed to welcome our company as if it had been reserved for us by the hands of fate.

Finally we sat, engulfed and whisked away to another time…another place, by the melodious intonations escaping the nearby Baby Grand piano. The song, in particular, was one my husband and I knew well. One which made us smile at one another like we did the day we met and knew we were meant to be together. The overhead lights had long since been dimmed, candles flickered in clear glass votive holders on the tables, and the scent of fresh flowers meticulously arranged and standing proudly atop the partition wall that separates the main dining area from the lounge wafted through the air at certain intervals, as if on cue. It was one of those enchanting moments one remembers forever. It welcomed us. It invited us in. It was as thought it was meant to be.

Above, flowing fountains and fragrant white climbing roses invite you in from the Ventura Boulevard entrance, while inside, enormous sprays of fragrant flowers enhance your experience in the lounge.

Candlelight, Complimentary Waffle-Cut Potato Crisps and Cocktails

As if hearing the tunes of David Wilson isn’t enough to get you into Bistro Garden, the establishment also offers a very reasonable Happy Hour menu. Monday through Friday, from 4 – 6:30 PM, all well and call drinks are just $5. Their house Cabernet, Chardonnay, White Zinfandel, Pinot Grigio or Sparkling Wine are all just $5 each, and their Draft Beer is only $3.50. If wetting your whistle isn’t enough, the Happy Hour bar bites should take care of that. All for a mere $5 each, the selection is both appealing and assorted: Rotisserie Chicken Quesadillas with Sour Cream and Guacamole, Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a Cup of Tomato Soup, Trio of Sliders – Beef, Lamb and Turkey, Basket of Sweet Potato Fries with Ranch Dressing, and Fresh Salmon Tartar on Crispy Brioche with Arugula Vinaigrette. All delicious, always made fresh, and always a perfect pairing with any of the Happy Hour libations. (We favor the Quesadillas, the Salmon Tartar, the Sliders and the Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup ourselves!)

The service and hospitality at Bistro Garden is impeccable. Since we’ve become regular visitors, the staff has made a point to get to know our names, and remember what our favorite drinks are. Most times, we don’t even have to ask. They just know. Fransisco, the mixologist of the establishment, with his friendly and outgoing personality, is ready to take your order. His sincerity and attention to detail is flawless. Maurice, the Maitre ‘D, with his classic demeanor, oversees all aspects of the establishment.

The atmosphere at Bistro Garden is relaxing, sophisticated, romantic and alluring. I would find it hard to believe that anyone could feel anything but at home here. The bar itself is a sight to behold. The mahogany stunner with its eclectic decor and classic characteristics makes one wonder about the stories it’s been witness to in years gone by. Napoleon keeps a watchful eye from behind the bar, while European-styled chandeliers hover overhead. Rich, comforting hues of navy, deep reds and golds flourish, while the comfortable seating beckons one to stay longer. This oasis is sure to please and certain to satisfy even the most discriminating tastes.

There once stool proud earthenware roostersalong the edges of the partition that sets the lounge apart from the main restaurant. We came to grow fond of these roosters, as they stood guard over each lounge table for so long. Like the rest of Bistro Garden, they became a part of our lives. The story is humorous, (not to the roosters, of course), but you’ll have to ask what happened to them because we’re not going to tell!

The garden-like dining room is enhanced with live plants and numerous potted trees and flowers in every direction one looks. Mirrors show off their shine, and a trellis-style thirty-foot ceiling of glass skylights allows for brilliantly-lit natural light during the daytime. In the evenings, lighted trees come alive and enhance the entire environment while you dine, seemingly creating a feel of dining outside under the stars. Live music from the lounge can be heard as well and is an excellent extension to dinner..

Bistro Garden’s upscale elegance and the incredibly talented David Wilson keep us returning week after week. Things wouldn’t be the same if we could ever not be in attendance. The ambiance is delightful, the entertainment outstanding and the Happy Hour just perfect. As for that first night at Bistro Garden, well…we became regulars after that memorable evening. And that lone table for two in the lounge when we arrived that first night…well, that’s our favorite place to sit when we stop in now. Never to be forgotten, always to be remembered.
